By Catherine Elliott

Hi there!
My name is Catherine Elliott and I’ve been a full-time artist since 1986. I specialize in Impressionism a style started by Monet. I also have taught painting workshops and have been on the staff of a couple of art schools. I enjoy painting “plein air”, or painting on location outside.

I have always enjoyed art and have quite a few family members who have pursued the same careers. I had a grandmother who wanted to become an artist, but at that time it wasn’t encourage for women to go in that direction. I know she would be proud of me! I am inspired by the beauty of the natural world. Many of my paintings have been purchased for places that need peace and tranquility such as hospitals, cancer waiting rooms, hotels, corporate offices as well as home work places.

I sell to galleries, but since the pandemic I sell out of my home quite often and have a gallery at my studio, presently in Simsbury Connecticut. I also have a online friendly shopping website now, and ship anywhere.I take commissions meaning I paint special projects for people or businesses that want a specific piece of artwork. I have a full description of what a commission piece is on my website: http://www.catherinemelliott.com.

If you’re reading this I would like you to know how important it is to love what you do as a career, occupation or even just a hobby. I’ve always tell my students and myself you must really love the subject that you are about to paint before you begin painting.
And also asking yourself why this subject appeals to me? What do you want to show the viewer? These questions before hand often and make or break the piece you were trying to create. So look around and figure out what appeals to you visually and how it makes you feel. All this helps to make artwork more fun and for fulfilling as well! And that’s what it should be💗
