With COVID-19, I feel as if I am being diagnosed with cancer again. The disbelief, the fear, the uncertainty, the panic. I am still currently on my journey, finished with chemo and waiting for my 3 month check up. Going to the hospital right now for a check up is not high on my priority list.
During my year journey with cancer, I learned many lessons and experienced many blessings and miracles. I have to take a breath now and review all the tools I used to get through the past year. I viewed my journey as a marathon with roller coaster rides a long the way. While running the race, I had to just make it to the next telephone pole. I am back in that mode again.
I have become a bit lackadaisical about using my tools – daily prayer, daily meditation, daily exercise. I never did stop watching mindless television shows though. Love the Hallmark Channel. I was trying to get back to work, get back to a “normal” life. So much for that! I need these tools now more than ever.
To remind myself to use them everyday and not get paralyzed by the fear, I have decided to blog about my journey and each tool.
In my upcoming blog posts I will write about my journey and how the support and techniques below helped me daily.
– Support from family/friends
– Prayer/Church
– Yoga Therapy
– Meditation
– Music Therapy
– Healthy Eating
– Daily Exercise
– Journaling
– Positive Affirmations
– Mindless and Funny TV
– And More.
I am working hard not to go into neurotic mode, which is tough for me. Just ask my 17 year old daughter. I have to focus on the present and really utilize all of these tools. I think blogging about my journey and each support tool will help keep me grounded.
So my first tip to you and me is to remember these statements below. Many are from my brother Paul.
Stay in the present.
Don’t think too much.
Don’t worry about things you can’t control.
Don’t let your mind spin out of control down the rabbit whole.
And when really stuck, listen to Christmas music!
Paul would check on me every day and give me a pep talk when needed.
Is there someone in your life you can check on?
Is there someone who can give you a pep talk?
Or better yet, is there someone you can give a pep talk to?
Finding the ability to Get Back to Basics!
