Don't Fall For Fall!

I am obsessed with fall this year. Each day is more beautiful than the one before. The bright blue sky and colorful leaves have me mesmerized. I am embracing and loving this season. This fall is absolutely breath taking! I love driving around to view the fall foliage. I enjoy daily walks in the mild fall weather. But the beauty of fall brings obstacles for those of us with a disability. Fall is aptly named – lots of falling going on. The falling leaves, falling pine needles, falling acorns. Be careful that you are not the one falling! A walker or wheel chair user has to be extra careful out there.

If you have a side walk in front of your house, consider sweeping it. I don’t know if that is something the town should be doing, but it isn’t happening. Also, if you own or rent an office space, please keep the ramp area clear. Please do not block the entrance to a ramp by parking in front of it!.

Above is an example of a side walk in Simsbury that is extra slippery due to all of the pine needles. Next is a picture of an entrance ramp in Granby that is difficult to maneuver due to all the leaves and is also inaccessible for wheelchair users since there is a car parked next to the ramp, blocking the ramp entrance. I did tell one of the venue owners of the issue.

Enjoy the beauty of fall, but be careful out there! Watch your step or wheel chair ride and may all your entrance ramps be accessible!
